Obasanjo congratulates Buhari, asks him to be magnanimous in victory

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated Gen Buhari on his victory today. In a message released this evening, Chief Obasanjo asked the President-in-waiting to be magnanimous in victory and also fight corruption when he assumes office.

Lol. See him above with GEJ as election results were being announced. And after it was clear who would win, he moved kia kia. He's a businessman, not a politician. Friends with anyone in govt...:-)

Official statement by president Jonathan after the announcement of the results of presidential election

Fellow Nigerians,

I thank you all for turning out en-masse for the March 28 General Elections. I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure.

Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress.

Read Prof. Jega's epic response to Orubebe this morning

After PDP party agent Godsday Orubebe created an embarrassing scene at the collation centre in Abuja this morning, trying to disrupt announcement of results (read here) a very calm Jega told him;

"Mr Orubebe, you are a former Minister of the Federal Republic .You are a statesman in your own right. You should be careful about what you say or what allegations or accusations you make. Certainly you should be careful about your public conduct"

Jega's response to Orubebe has been hailed as mature and worthy of praise. In fact, there's a meaning for Jega now. 'Jega' - meaning - 'To be inexplicably chilled in the midst of stupidity or conflict". lol. Prof Jega's full response after the cut

For those who missed it, here's the video of former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and PDP party agent Godsday Orubebe attempting to disrupt the announcement of the presidential election results at the collation centre in Abuja this morning as it was about to start. PDP spokesperson, Olisa Metuh speaks on Orubebe's outburst at collation center

PDP publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh spoke to Channels TV on the outburst of their party agent Elder Godsday Orubebe at the collation center this morning. What he told Chanels TV below

"In a democratic process, we must follow democratic channels. Yesterday we questioned the opposition party about certain things they had done to challenge states. We expect our members to follow the same process as well. This party has a tradition of decency and will follow democratic channels to lay complaints. Ours is to protest and make our voices heard through recognized channels and wait for democratic process to be followed. We directed our members that everyone should conduct himself within democratic norms and principles. That is all we have to say about that." he said

Presidential election results so far - APC still leading

The presidential election results for 26 states has so far been announced and right now, APC is still leading with 10,462,670 votes while PDP has 9,953,432 votes. The difference is 509,238 votes.

The election announcement will continue in about 30mins. They are on recess. We still have Sokoto, Borno, Zamfara, Kebbi, Taraba, Benue, Adamawa, Bauchi, Delta and Edo. Fingers crossed!

PDP official disrupts INEC result announcement, says Jega is partial and has been compromised

The PDP party agent at the Collation center in Abuja, Elder Godsday Orubebe is currently staging a protest at the INEC result collation center alleging that Prof Jega has been compromised. According to him, Professor Jega has been selective, partial and is tribalistic. He said APC had written a letter to INEC concerning an alleged rigging in Rivers state which he immediately sent a committee to investigate the issue but that when PDP wrote protest letters on the elections in Katsina, Kaduna and Jigawa, Jega did not send anyone to attend to their protest.

Orubebe, who is a former Minister of Niger Delta, is now calling for Jega to stop result collation. He sat on stage and refused to allow the result announcement to continue...

Presidential election results so far! PDP in early lead...

INEC has announced results for 8 states and the FCT, Abuja - (total 9) and so far PDP is leading with 2,322,734 votes while APC has 2,302,978 votes, though APC won five states and PDP four states.

The commission has reconvened till 8pm tonight to allow sufficient time for other states to bring in their results. We are still expecting results for 27 states. We will continue by 8pm. Stay tuned!

US, UK Govt release joint statement. Say there are signs of political interference in collation of results

The US and UK government have released a joint statement appraising last Saturday's general elections. We have our own Situation Room and we have collated all our figures from the various polling booths, wards, local government areas and states in the Federation.

The man in the photo above was allegedly shot dead by a soldier this morning at Bauchi's INEC Office after the military tried to gain access into the office. Residents of the state had blocked the military from entering the office as results were being collated and this sparked the violence. The residents had held a vigil outside the INEC office to await the announcement of last Saturday's election when the military showed up. Another man was hit by a stray bullet. The former Commissioner for Land in Enugu State contested for the Nkanu East/West seat. He was allegedly caught with 4000 PVCs in Enugu yesterday by the military, who paraded him. Pics: Stray dogs show up at funeral of woman who used to feed them

The funeral for a woman (pictured left) in Mexico took a strange but incredible turn when stray dogs unexpectedly showed up to pay their respects.

The woman, named Margarita Suarez was known for her kindness to all kinds of animals and used to feed stray dogs and cats that would show up at her home every day. Her family members said they were stunned when the dogs arrived at the funeral parlor where Margarita's body was lying in state.

The dogs laid peacefully on the floor near the woman's coffin and only left once Margarita's body was being prepared for cremation. True story! See the photos after the cut...

Women in Rivers state took to the streets this morning to protest the conduct of the election in the state on Saturday March 28th. The women who wore black walked through Aba road towards INEC office to register their displeasure, alleging that there were some irregularities during the election.

The Kogi INEC Collation Officer Prof. Adikwu Michael while making the announcement at the state's secretariat in Lokoja this morning said Buhari pulled 264,851 votes out of the 439,287 votes that was cast in the state. President Jonathan pulled 149,987 votes. Gen Buhari won in 15 of the 21 LGAs of the state while President Jonathan won in 6 LGAs. In terms of percentage, Gen Buhari had 60.3% votes while President Jonathan had 34.1% votes.

Meanwhile, Buhari has also been declared the winner of the Presidential election in Jigawa state. The INEC returning officer, Professor James Ayatsa who is the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Katsina announced his victory and said Gen. Buhari pulled a total of 885, 988 votes while President Jonathan pulled a total of 143, 904 votes.
